Reimagining Death: Connecting with our Ancestral Legacies
15-week, 45-hour experiential, online course
Reimagining supports healing our concept of dying through engaging with the legacy and the wisdom of our ancestral cultures.
In this experiential immersion course we journey through the maps that have bequeathed us the ancestral knowing of the original peoples of the Américas, as well as the visions from a variety of other ancestral cultures.

A Transpersonal Approach to Learning Online
Transforming our concept and experience of birthing, living, dying, and what happens after death is fundamental to any work of healing through life transitions, loss, traumatic event, natural disaster, and preparing for the end of life and what comes after death.
Throughout the course, students participate in a dynamic, experiential learning process that addresses all aspects of being: physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual.
Transpersonal Goals
- To provide a background in the maps, models, approaches, traditions and practices of living and dying.
- To help students inquire into the nature of their own and others’ subjective experience from an embodied, compassionate perspective.
- To facilitate personal transformation as well as philosophical and action-oriented development to support a life of service, self-awareness, and self-responsibility.
- To foment an embodied, compassionate, intentional personal and professional life in healthy relationship with our shared human vulnerability to change, loss and mortality.
We achieve these goals through readings, discussion forums, reflection exercises, creative explorations, inquiry into personal story, experiential activities, spiritual practices, individual and group tasks.
Compassionate accompaniment involves two very different kinds of knowledge: one fully theoretical that allows us to work therapeutically, and another that depends on the internalization of a series of personal skills from which compassion, empathy, trust and all human potential emanate that is needed to create a therapeutic bond between the accompanied and the companion.
The idea of death that prevails in our current culture unfolds in the collective imagination as a sick, morbid and terrible image that irremediably connects us with tragedy, suffering and loss. And it is from that dark space that we enter into relationship with it and, from where we intend to be the guide and companion of others.
Fortunately, there are many other routes and maps to navigate this important part of life from more creative and healthy views and approaches, such as those offered by the ancestral knowledge of our peoples and other cultures.
